Who do you need to forgive? Sometimes the person we need to forgive the most is us. We learn to forgive others but learning to forgive ourselves isn't usually a lesson we're taught. Which is kinda weird when you think about it. If everything starts with us, how can we truly practice forgiveness when we're not able to show ourselves forgiveness? We all make mistakes or wished we had done something differently or made a better choice at some point in our life. Holding on to all of the anger, regret and disappointment with ourselves isn't helpful or healthy. It tends to keep us attached to the past, depressed, stuck and blind to the blessings in our present life. We can also wear our lack of forgiveness lack a badge of honor that displays to us what we are and are not worthy of.
At some point, we have to let it go. If we don't, it slowly but consistently chips away at us. It begins to steal our joy from the present and our hope for the future. It also makes it difficult for others to get close to us because we are not at peace with ourselves.
I know how hard it can be to practice self forgiveness. I also know how freeing it feels to do it. Everyday tell yourself I love you and I forgive you for choosing what you thought was your only or best option at the time. Practice this form of self love and I promise your life will change in ways never thought were possible. Remember everything starts with you and how you treat yourself. Choose to love yourself and to forgive yourself.
